Passport to Dance Summer Camp 2024
We are thrilled to share that our Passport to Dance Summer Camp was a resounding success! Campers embarked on a vibrant journey through India's rich cultural landscape, receiving a passport on the first day to document their week-long adventure. Each day, we visited a different region of India, immersing ourselves in both traditional folk dances and modern styles.
Monday: Mumbai, Maharashtra
Our first stop was Mumbai, the heart of Bollywood. Campers kicked off the week with an energetic Bollywood dance, capturing the essence of India's film capital.
Tuesday: Gujarat
On Tuesday, we traveled to Gujarat, where we embraced the rhythmic and graceful moves of Garba, a traditional folk dance. Campers also enjoyed decorating their own dhandiyas, the colorful sticks used in Garba, adding a personal touch to their dance experience.
Wednesday: Punjab
Midweek, we found ourselves in Punjab, learning the lively and exuberant steps of Bhangra, a dance known for its powerful movements and joyful spirit.
Thursday: Tamil Nadu
Our journey continued to Tamil Nadu on Thursday, where campers were introduced to the dynamic and celebratory Dappankuttu dance, a popular street dance in the region. Additionally, they created beautiful Indian flags out of tissue paper art, showcasing their creativity and appreciation for Indian culture.
Friday: Summer Camp Recital
The week culminated on Friday with a grand recital, where campers showcased all they had learned to the parents and other dance campers. It was a fantastic display of their hard work, dedication, and newfound dance skills. As a special memory, campers used paint to put handprints on their fellow campers’ shirts, symbolizing the lasting friendships and shared experiences from the camp.
